portrait of an 'intimate chronometry'
Born in Lille in 1970, Muriel Toulemonde lives and works in Paris.

Her work in the fields of photography and video questions the omnipresence of the notion of bodily perfection, physical performance and the idea of exceeding the 'natural' bounds of life.

The power of science and technology in exceeding those bounds. The vanity of such attempts. The impossibility of such issues.

To give shape to her research, Muriel Toulemonde explores various places in which the body is in confrontation with its contingencies: spa therapy centres and beauty salons, horse clinics and convalescence stud farms, and, more recently, the field of sport (stadiums and swimming pools).

A series of dematerialised elements borrowed from reality produce dreamlike images and a climate of strangeness that sends us into ourselves.
